2021 Spark! Youth Poetry Competition

Thank for your interest in the 2021 Spark Youth Poetry Competition. Unfortunately submissions for this year are now closed.

High school students residing in Clark County, Nevada are invited to present original poems during the Las Vegas Book Festival in the Poetry Tent on Saturday, October 23, 2021.

Students will be asked to present 3 original poems to be judged by a panel consisting of poets, authors, educators, and other community members. Panelists will use a scoring rubric to assign numerical values to determine the evaluation criteria. The top 3 highest scoring students will determine first, second, and third place.

  • There will be three presentation rounds. All students will present one poem in the first round. The top 6 students will present in the second round. The top three students will present in the third round to determine first, second, and third place.

  • First Place – $300 cash award
  • Second Place – $200 cash award
  • Third Place – $100 cash award

  • Recitation Panel & Awards: Saturday, October 23, 2021, 1:00 pm - 3:30 pm

  • Las Vegas Book Festival, Historic Fifth Street School, 401 S. Fourth Street Las Vegas, Nevada 89101
  • The ongoing COVID-19 crisis may effect in-person events. We will monitor and follow all COVID-19 requirements and adjust the program as needed up to and including transitioning to a virtual event.

  • All high school students (grades 9 - 12) who are residents of Clark County, Nevada.
