Born in Illinois, but raised in Las Vegas, Luke Anderson has been a fixture on the Vegas Valley and Henderson elementary school scene for the past 10 years. He visits at least 10 schools a week during Nevada Reading week and has also performed for the city of Henderson’s Safekey program throughout that span, giving performances that are geared towards entertaining and encouraging kids to read. Additionally, Luke also partnered with the GATE teacher at Nate Mack Elementary School for 4 years as a guest teacher, helping Ms. Bichsel’s 5th
grade GATE students write, edit, and publish their own book of short stories. All of his work throughout the Vegas Valley and Henderson has been free of charge and, it’s because of this work, promoting reading and literacy that Luke was awarded the Las Vegas Book festival’s 2013 Crystal Bookmark Award. Luke is currently working on a fifth Hockey Penguin book to wrap up the series as well as toying around with several other book ideas including a rewrite of his first novel, 24 Chapters of This? which was written by him at the age of 18, and will give an authentic look into growing up in Vegas in the late 90’s.
